Holiday Play Schemes
Holiday play schemes provide organised play and activities for school aged children during the school holidays. Activities can include arts, crafts and drama, indoor and outdoor games and sports, swimming and day trips.
There are three main kinds of holiday play and care schemes within Gedling Borough
Gedling Borough Council - Holiday activites
Are held at sports and leisure centres.
Children can attend morning or afternoon session,
Some are open all day with children bringing their own packed lunch.
Sessional, daily, or weekly charges are made.
Children under 8 must usually be accompanied by a fee paying adult.
Community run play schemes
Usually run for one or two week periods during school holidays
Are held at community centres, schools or village halls
Suitable for school age children
Some offer morning, afternoon or all day sessions
There is usually no or a low charge
Some play schemes operate on a first come basis, some have to be pre-booked
They can be an Open Access Scheme, where children are free to come and go as they wish
Supervised play can be provided by paid play workers and/or volunteers on a sessional basis and therefore is not normally suitable for working parents as it does not constitute childcare.
